If you’re exploring ways to support healthcare without working in the frontline, here are a list of coronavirus volunteering opportunities for doctors you may wish to consider during these times:
National Health Supporters is a directory for known networks of students across the country assisting staff with their needs. The aim is for students to help alleviate pressures on staff including, but not exclusive to: childcare; grocery shopping; and pet sitting.
MedSupplyDrive UK is a new initiative which helps redirect Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – like masks, gloves and gowns, from companies and organisations which aren’t currently using them towards NHS workers who are facing shortages out on the frontline.

#Request PPE supply 🚑
#volunteer to join the cause 💪🏼
With all that is going on in the country and the world right now, it seems we have some solidarity in what our top priorities are – our health and the health of those around us.

#NHSWELLNESSBOX are a community support group which deliver small boxes of self-care items to frontline NHS staff, who might otherwise be too exhausted to sort these out for themselves. Boxes include items such as hand cream, moisturisers, body wash, deodorant and toothpaste as well as healthy non perishable snacks and treats. We hope each box will also have a relaxing music CD/link, booklet, pen and positive message for each recipient; it doesn’t need to be fancy and can include kids hand drawn pictures or thank you notes.
Our hope is to bring positivity to help people through the difficult days whilst showing our gratitude too. If you know any businesses or individuals who might be interested in donating items, proving samples or sponsoring these boxes please do get in touch.
Dr. Nav Paul is a Dermatology Fellow and currently the Co-ordinator for Lewisham & Greenwich and Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Foundation NHS Trust.
