The future’s allbright for female entrepreneurs
We hear about the launch of Allbright, a new unique funding platform to support female entrepreneurs has been launched this week
In keeping with objectives to create an inclusive society with more women in leadership roles, particularly in business, a new unique funding platform to support female entrepreneurs has been launched this week.
Allbright, co-founded by two female entrepreneurs, is designed to combine crowdfunding, angel investment opportunities and access to business learning resources, whilst connecting female entrepreneurs with the support they need in a male-dominated economic environment.
Earlier this year, I speculated as to why women were comparatively reluctant to putting themselves forward for opportunities which would otherwise be taken up by a man. Despite possessing similar or better skill sets.
At our last Enterprising Doctors Workshop, we had a situation whereby all but one of the women, bowed out of a pitching competition with variations of a theme regarding the excuse that they hadn’t prepared adequately enough. The reality was that most of the men had achieved less, if not no preparation, but were still willing to give it a go.
With booster opportunities such as Allbright, we still need to tackle some of the cultural gender-biased perceptions that women themselves possess, in order to encourage them to seize the opportunities available to them.
The Allbright platform was announced in the same week as tech medical appointments platform Doctify closing their Series A round of investment. Doctify was founded by 2 orthopaedic registrars – Stephanie Eltz and Suman Saha. As a female founder, surgeon and business owner, Stephanie has become quite a role model for many – also considering she spent the greater part of her time developing Doctify in full time training.
Currently expecting a baby, she’s taken a break from clinical practice, but will still continue to provide input to the internationally scaling Doctify.
Hence, my message for all those potential female doctorpreneurs in the ether – now’s your time to shine.
