Innovia has an exciting opportunity for a Medic or Vet who is passionate about using their broad biomedical knowledge on a variety of novel challenges within industry.
Innovia is a friendly Cambridge-based innovation consultancy of 85 people.
We work at ‘the fuzzy front-end’ of innovation: the very start of the next new thing. Our multidisciplinary teams create, learn and problem-solve for some of the world’s biggest international companies.
Clients like Procter & Gamble, LEGO, KraftHeinz and Jaguar Land Rover trust us to help them invent the future.
As an NHS doctor I enjoyed working with patients and healthcare professionals but was keen to do more creative work. Having previously done a Genetics degree, I missed working with more fundamental (rather than clinical) science on a regular basis.
At Innovia, each project is different and allows me to apply my skills and knowledge in exciting and often unexpected new ways. This includes learning insights and ways of thinking from areas such as design or engineering.
Finally, I appreciate Innovia’s strong focus on work-life balance, which enables me to pursue my other interests and spend time with my friends.
Medics and vets at Innovia are able to use the breadth of their clinical knowledge (from anatomy and physiology, to nutrition, diagnostics, pharmacology, medical imaging, and surgical techniques) to tackle complex scientific challenges and enable us to invent breakthrough solutions for our clients.
You’ll work in teams with other specialists from engineering to product design, business strategy and human behaviour.
Each consultant brings a deep understanding of their own field to generate well-rounded and holistic solutions that help our global clients outcompete their rivals across a range of different industries.
In your role as a consultant, you’ll spend time on four types of activity:
You’ll utilise the science underpinning your medical or veterinary knowledge to dig into the deep technical detail of our clients’ challenges in industries like medical devices, food and drink, apparel or consumer goods.
You’ll develop compelling new ideas, present your recommendations, respond thoughtfully to client needs and help them evaluate their options, learn to manage multidisciplinary project teams and help us develop new business opportunities.
Every day you’d work together with people whose background may be in organic chemistry, theoretical physics, materials science, mechanical engineering, industrial design, public health, psychology – and many more.
Consultants work on projects across multiple industries from apparel to pharmaceuticals and medical devices, from transport and energy to food – allowing you to expand your expertise to engage with a broad range of complex problems in an environment which values work-life balance.
Our ideal candidate with a veterinary or medical degree will have:
It would be an advantage if you have focussed particularly strongly on the fundamental principles of biomedical science
You don’t need to have any prior experience of consulting, but you should have an interest in client-facing roles and the commercial world.
This role will appeal to you if:
In a small fast-paced business, you will be able to expand your expertise, get involved at many levels of the organisation, and grow your role.

This role will be based in our office in Cambridge UK, and Innovia will offer hybrid in-person + remote working to all staff (as well as flexible arrangement of schedules as standard).
Unfortunately, this role is not suitable for applicants who wish to work 100% remotely as some regular in-office working is required.
Applicants must be based in the UK.
This role is best suited for junior doctors or vets who are anywhere up to 4 years postgrad.
